What formats can I paste?
Any of the three: #ff8800 (or short #f80), rgb(255, 136, 0), or hsl(32, 100%, 50%). The tool detects which you typed and converts to the other two, live.
When should I use HSL instead of HEX or RGB?
HSL is the designer's format: hue picks the color, saturation its intensity, lightness its brightness. Need a darker shade of your brand color? Drop the L value — far more intuitive than mentally adjusting three RGB channels.
Why does my HSL convert to a slightly different HEX?
Rounding — HSL values are coarser than 8-bit RGB, so round trips can drift by one step. Visually identical; pixel-peepers should treat HEX as the source of truth.
